Message from Chairman
The 2009 Middle East Spatial Technology Conference & Exhibition is the FIFTH of a series of Conferences that began in 1998, The aim of the conference being the development of Geographic Information Systems and applications in the region, in doing so the conference was successful in bringing together all the professional in this industry which includes GIS Community of professionals, geographers, educators, researchers, developers, Engineers and surveyors.
Following the overwhelming success of MEST 2007 and the feedback from over 500 delegates who attended the last conference, MEST 2009 comes to re-emphasis the importance of the GIS and the business and the commitment of the conference organisation team and the GIS community to delivering an even better event than 2007.
We invite all interested in this industry weather you are a traditional GIS user or have interest in the way the spatial technology is shaping the future to contribute with your thoughts and ideas and look forward to meeting you at MEST 2009.
Introduction & Background
The financial crises have brought about many issues for consideration by enterprise mangers, more capabilities and closer look and control over spending and better management of assets, for example the organizations that manage critical infrastructure, the management, maintenance and reporting of physical assets and asset records is arguably one of their most important duties and quite often mandated by law.
The oil and gas industry for example is characterized by such critical infrastructure. The mis-management of their assets can mean massive unnecessary costs. While the timely, high assurance management of their asset data management can both remove unnecessary operational costs and contribute to an organization’s topline.
Knowing “where” your assets are is deceptively important. Many organizations are content to simply catalog their assets from an accounting standpoint. In many cases, having a high resolution, highly accurate grasp of your assets’ locations and geospatial characteristics is simply too much to ask. Yet, what operators, managers, decision-makers, and financial staff seek is even more detail than that. They want all of the attributes of that asset, the disposition of that asset, and the history of its maintenance lifecycle provided to them in real-time, along with real-time location and geospatial characteristics. How can this challenge be met within your enterprise? It requires a Spatially Enabled Enterprise.., Engineering, Business and GIS Fusion…
This conference will be the channel through which we can communicate the new technology trends and development and gain from each other’s experiences.
